Mere Phantoms produced a Living Wallpaper for the annual general meeting of the CDEST - La Corporation de développement de l’Est. Their theme for the assembly was “Nous Tous Pour Vous” highlighting the activitie of the CDEST in the neighbourhood.  Mere Phantoms created a dynamic and colourful animated banner which was projected in the main assembly hall to kick off the event.

Mere Phantoms créé une affiche animée, dynamique et colorée qui a été projeté dans la salle principale pour lancer l’événement.

Anamnesis,  an ongoing collaborative project instigated by Maya Ersan of Mere Phantoms, was at the Tate Modern this weekend as a part of the No Soul For Sale exhibition. Originally presented as an installation in the PiST Artist Run Space in Istanbul, the piece became a shadow-play,  and video with the collaboration of Alev Ersan, Senem Sinem, Kadir Yardimci and Ahmet Dogu Ipek.

Over 800 people came through Off the Hook Gallery to check out our sneak preview performance of Kouk-Lá and performances by Panadream Theatre and Julie Desrosiers. It was a great success and a lot of all night fun.

Kouk Lá is an audio-visual collaboration between Mere Phantoms and musicians Lucas Moore on clarinet and Jean-Phillipe Reny on oud. Employing a range of analog and digital visual trickery Kouk Lá takes it’s cue from the Turkish word “kukla” meaning puppet. The performer and the puppets switch identities as they negotiate their place in a more than human world. The Music for the show is composed by Lucas Moore and is carries influences of Sufi, Turkish gypsy music as well as Jazz and Electronic Music.

This week we’re at the Centre for Innovation in Culture and the Arts, in Kamloops BC, participating in an artist in residence titled “Limber”. ”Limber” involves five artists-in-residence at CiCAC from March 1-5, Simla Civelek, Sepideh Saii, Ikbal Sing, and us Maya and Jenny of Mere Phantoms.

With our Living Wallpaper designs, we will be creating intimate experiences using projection within the domestic the space of our hosts. For more about CiCAC check out  http://www.cicac.ca/

(Mere Phantoms will take stage at 8pm, 10.30pm and 1 am)Where: at the Off the Hook gallery, located at 1021 St Catherine West on the third floor. This all ages event is FREE, and juice and popcorn will be served all night.
